As far as I can see, although the project is not completely abandoned (as was asked in the issue #424), the owner (@edenhill) rarely looks here.
The last commit was in November, so I'm afraid it's going to be a very long story.
As a temporary workaround, you can pull the latest sources (1.8.0 in the master, I hope it is stable enough), build the binaries and the deb package yourself, and publish the package to your local apt repository.
When installing using
apt-get install kafkacat
, the latest version is1.6.0
. Confirmed on ubuntu packages. Nothing shows up underkcat
