It would be nice if we could package this up as a webextension and then use the file api to load local files. I know there already is a dosbox webextension, but it looks like nobody has done anything with it in a few years.

Why would that be nice? I think it would be better to use a copy of DOSBox that is compiled as a normal application for the CPU and operating system which you're using.

It could be useful for platforms that don't easily have that don't easily have that option like some ChromeOS devices. Might be a worthwhile usecase for something like this to pursue. Maybe IOS safari? I'm not sure what the situation is in late 2022. I don't have a stake in this ticket currently.
