After editing a newly creating user plugin it just disappears from the plugin list. Although the json file still exists in the anticontainer_plugins folder, it does nothing. Re-installing the plugin does not work either.

This happens when the file is improperly formatted. It finds the file is invalid and ignores it until you've corrected whatever is done wrong. For instance, you have to do "." for "." notation with the regular expression, or it becomes invalid and won't show.
