Disconnects immediately after connect (ubuntu 18.04)

M33 Manager connects to my printer, pulls down some diagnostic information and the install-firmware buttons activate, then it immediately disconnects, for no observable reason. Once yesterday it actually stayed connected long enough to install the iMe fimware, and once it stayed connected long enough to start the calibration procedure, but mostly it just disconnects right away.

dmesg shows that the usb port disconnects during the process at least once.

Host is running Ubuntu 18.04, if that's relevant. Tried on two different laptops to make sure it's not a bad physical USB port.

I finally got around to trying Octoprint + M33-Fio plugin and it seems to work without problems.
