The podman package hasn't been updated in a while on ubuntu 22.04. It's a broken version. I think it would be fair to specify it in the docs.

that is an issue with Ubuntu. Ask the distro maintainers to update Podman there. Alternatively you can use a newer Ubuntu release, or a different distro
