I just tried this again and it now works!

Tested with podman 3.4.4 and conmon 2.0.25.

$ s2i build --loglevel=5 -U $DOCKER_HOST https://github.com/sclorg/django-ex.git registry.access.redhat.com/ubi8/python-39 hello-python
