We are in the process of introducing a new signed installer. We aren't yet looking at msix. One of the challenges with this mechanism is that it is limited. We can not execute any custom code such as enabling WSL on behalf of the user. For this reason, the installer approach is likely to be our preferred option. As to providing a secondary alternative, even with the move to wix, msix requires a completely separate toolchain, so it would involve some non-trivial development effort to introduce. Due to these factors, the priority isn't high, but this can always change if we see a high interest (or contributors volunteer to work on this). |

I am going to move this to a discussion at this point rather then having it as an issue. |

Is this a BUG REPORT or FEATURE REQUEST? (leave only one on its own line)

Description
Request to package the windows version in an MSIX installer rather than via a MSI installer.
MSIX packages have better integration with the Windows OS and have advantages for updates and removal. Overall their install experience feels smoother.
See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/msix/overview for the details.
