The original resynthesizer included a user interface.  In this package, the engine is a separate plugin from the user interface which is its own plugin.  (The user interface plugin is likely to require changes because the GUI toolkit GTK is likely to change.  It already throws warnings about deprecations during compile.  The user interface plugin now written in C should be rewritten in Python so it would be more independent of changes to the GUI toolkit.)

The original resynthesizer plugin included several plugins written as interpreted scripts in the Scheme language with the .scm suffix.  In this package, they were renamed and rewritten to the Python language (for example plugin-heal-selection.py is a rewrite of plugin-smart-remove.scm.)

This package also includes several additional interpreted plugins (for example plugin-render-texture.py) in the Python language that simplify common uses of the original plugin (using the original user interface.)

In this version the resynthesizer engine suffered a major rewrite; see ChangeLog.

The API (the signature) of the plugin is unchanged from v0.16 although the meaning of one parameter (use_border) is expanded to allow for directional synthesizing.  Older scripts using the resynthesizer MIGHT continue to work but then all that were originally distributed in v0.16 have replacements in this version.  See the ChangeLog for changes that might affect scripts that use the resynthesizer.  

One important change is that the resynthesizer now uses the selection in the corpus, not the inverse of the selection.  This affects how a user uses the control panel for resynthesizer, for some use cases (resynthesizing a selection in a layer when the corpus (source) is the same layer.  It also might affect unknown third party plugins that use the resynthesizer.  It also means that some old plugin scripts using the resynthesizer might not work even though the API is unchanged.  The new plugin scripts should be used with the new resynthesizer engine.
