Support compact style in sidebar

Please consider supporting compact style in sidebar. That would lessen screen real estate used per each item in the sidebar. Current style seems quite wasteful.

I'm not 100% sold on the need for this. Spacing is important for breathability, and this could set a bad precedent for adding a "compact" mode to everything that has a pleasant amount of spacing.
