Hi! I was wondering if there was a way I could have the program analyze by 120 second long video, in a short period of time? Or if it is possible to do so?

Hi,

Without knowing more about your problem, what you are analyzing, or the video in question, my short answer is yes that you can process a 120 second video file.

My long answer is probably. I'm unsure what you mean by a "short period of time"...the program's limiting factor would be your computer's RAM and the number of frames in the video file. If your computer is capable, you can run the script in parallel for different batches of videos, but that functionality is not built in and would require leg work on your end.

Taking a step back, if your videos are standard (like the examples in the repo) then you could probably make your workflow better -- 120 seconds is a very long time to see the behavior in most flies. Assuming you are using the program for what it was intended (Drosophila climbing assays), I think you should reconsider a few things:

  • Run/process a single climb in a single video. The program outputs a velocity for each vial in a video, so by having multiple runs in a video you will only get the velocity of the highest quality run. Consider cropping the videos and resaving them into individual runs.
  • Each run should be for a reasonable period of time. Assuming the flies climb steadily over 120 seconds, you will not get an appreciable measurement over such a long time.

Alternatively, if you are using the program for something else, then you can certainly use it for the time you are asking but may need to modify a few things to get it to do what you need.
