Build a custom authentication server for CMS

Summary

Rather than using Netlify Identity, we'd like to have our authentication server so we can be in control of the number of users and their roles.

Motivation

This will be a fun project for anyone interested in authentication.
The impact of not doing this is that we may have to pay for Netlify Identity.

Questions

  1. What type of backend do we setup?
  2. How do we integrate it with Netlify & the CMS?

I've been sitting on this idea for a bit, I think I might want to tackle it! I wouldn't be able to get started anytime soon, though.
