This DFG-funded project provides a web-based, open-access platform in order to facilitate linguistic research on Old Indic texts. The text corpus is made available in a digitally accessible as well as morphologically and metrically annotated form, searchable for lexicographic and corpus-linguistic criteria. VedaWeb is part of the Cologne South Asian Languages and Texts (C-SALT).
In the first phase of the project (VedaWeb, 2017-2020) the basic concept of the platform was developed and a first instance went online. The pilot text this application is working with is the Rigveda. It's linked to the dictionaries available at Cologne Digital Sanskrit Dictionaries via the C-SALT APIs for Sanskrit Dictionaries and features morphological annotations of the Rigveda that were carried out at the Universität Zürich (UZH) and made available for the project. The source code of the existing VedaWeb platform application is open-sourced via a public GitHub repository. There is also an OpenAPI 3 schema of the exposed API for any interested users with a technical background.
In the current, second phase of the project (VedaWeb 2.0, 2022-2025), the platform application is being rebuilt from scratch to become a reusable collaborative research platform for texts of different kinds. The VedaWeb platform will be the first public instance of this application working with a variety of Old Indic texts. The data composed, revised and processed in this second phase include audio recordings of recitations of the Rigveda that will be integrated into the platform as well as other texts such as the Atharvaveda.
