Why does there seem to be lower overall spike count when an image is moved in a random motion vs consistent direction?

See for example spikes returned from the following image moved across a uniformly-zero background in a consistent motion vs random motion

I experienced similar results on different trials moving different CIFAR images across a uniformly 0 background
