rare doesnt see luxtorpeda in the compatibility tools folder i think it might be because it doesnt find a proton file
Describe the solution you'd like
i think the ideal would be scanning all the folders in compatibilitytools.d and reading the commandline entry in toolmanifest.vdf but just setting a list of common proton alternative binaries would work too ig, and then setting the SteamAppId env var so luxtorpeda knows what engine to download (proton ge reads it too to set some protonfixes so maybe it should be set on every game that uses proton)
Describe alternatives you've considered
i can set it as a wrapper manually or maybe softlink luxtorpeda.sh to proton but i havent tried that
edit: soflinking works

There is no reliable way for us to know the SteamAppId, for example, the way Steam Grades resolves the ProtonDB grades is not particularly accurate, but it is good enough for its limited purpose.
I have never used Luxtorpeda so I can't comment on what other issues it could potentially have. There need to be some improvements to Proton handling in general which might help with Luxtorpeda but nothing concrete.
I am happy to say that luxtorpeda will work with the games it supports in the next version for Rare. There is still the issue of inferring the SteamAppId but we will make that user-configurable in case the automatic way falls flat on its face.
