While I am quite fond of cities in Belgium, always being centered and zoomed in there makes it tedious to look at things in California.
Let people search by Divisions and 2 letter country code to find a place close to them and then let them click on the name and the map recenters to that division.
You could do it with place names. It would certainly be more likely to have terms a person would search, but it is a lot more to index.
What browser are you seeing the problem on? What version are you running?

Totally understood. The release we're dropping tomorrow will fix this "always centered in belgium" problem a bit better- we have a navigator control that you can click on to zoom to different places/views. However, I think that some kind of geocoder/place hopper is for a great upgrade.
