Make sure to follow our issue report guidelines

  • I'm using the latest version of Natron (not required but recommended)
  • I've restarted Natron and the issue persists
  • I've run Natron via the command line and the issue persists
  • I've followed the contributing guidelines to the best of my understanding
  • My issue is not on the issue tracker or in a pull request already (go search for it and dig around a little bit!)
  • This bug is reproducible

Did you install Natron using the official installer?

  • Yes, I used the official installer
  • No, I installed from a binary archive
  • No, I compiled Natron from sources
  • No, I installed Natron via another method

Custom installation path

What were you trying to do?

Save an image with Display-P3 color profile

What did you expect to happen? What happened instead?

When saving a png file using write node, color profile don't seem to be included even though i set "file colorspace" property to be other than srgb.

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Start natron, add write node
  2. Set write node to save jpg or png
  3. Set "file colorspace" in the write node properties to any non srgb
  4. Write the image
  5. Open the image in any image editor, krita in my tests, and see in which color space the image is recognized. It should be your choosen color space, but in result you will get srgb

Additional details

I'm using a bit outdated (jul 8 2024) natron 2.6 build downloaded from here: https://github.com/acolwell/Natron/releases/tag/nightly
and cannot test newer version at the moment unfortunately.

This behaviour is not exclusive to natron though, i have the same thing happening in blender lts for non exr outputs. Even if writer wasn't supposed to embed icc profile, in my opinion this should be fixed anyway because when working with a wide gamut sequence you will unlikely convert every frame to the needed color profile manually and it will require another third party tool.
