Safari extension is no longer supported in Mojave. It gives an explicit message about it so I don't think this will go away in production version. screen shot attached. Not sure if this is a technology thing, or they just want it in the App Store.

It looks like Apple is ending support for the old Safari .safariextz format, and forcing everyone to convert to the Safari App Extension format. When Safari 12 is released the only way to get extensions will be through the Safari Extensions Gallery (which is deprecated and will stop accepting new extensions at the end of 2018) or the Mac App Store.
If it's not a huge hassle or there's enough interest/demand, I'm not opposed to converting to the new format.
