The R package rgee was used to interact with Google Earth Engine. Since January 2024, we have been having issues with that package, specially the authentication process. The maintainer of the package has not been able to fix the issue. He reported that maintaining the package has been challenging due to the constant changes in the Google Earth Engine API. In fact, he does not intend to keep maintaining rgee.
Therefore, we need to migrate from rgee to geemap, which is a Python package that provides a Python API for Google Earth Engine. The geemap package has been actively maintained and has a large user base. The geemap package is built on top of the ee Python package, which is the official Python API for Google Earth Engine. The geemap package provides a user-friendly interface for visualizing and analyzing Earth Engine data.
