Jovian rotates the orientation of the touch screen.

But right now, you have to disable this option for Jovian to work properly on xorg plasma.

I have not tested this with gnome. But if is not needed for gnome either, I would disable this option by default to be honest.

I have confirmed: gnome on x11 also works perfectly fine with this option disabled.

Hmm... From memory this is actually a problematic issue non-specific to the Steam Deck, and basically revolves around xinput handling and expectations around "system configuration" vs. "desktop environment configuration"...

... and IIRC also linked with overall handling of panel orientation with DRM properties, and consumption of those properties by software.

I'm not sure what the proper solution is, if there even is one that works across the desktop environments [and lack thereof too].

I guess the first step would be to disable that option, and use a startx session without a desktop environment trying to do smart stuff around display management, and then formulate a headcanon/plan from there.

(There were a lot of changes around the display orientation defaults since this was added initially.)
