What kind of user is the feature intended for?
Data re-user

What inspired the request?
Improving data findability on QDR; User feedback

What existing behavior do you want changed?
Display of dates in facets: Currently, dates are simply displayed as individually, filterable years in the facet. That's un-intuitive, imprecise, and diverges from standard behavior in other search interfaces (that's why, I assume, date is rarely used as a facet in existing Dataverse)

Any brand new behavior do you want to add to Dataverse?
Some version of a date-range selector. Here are some implementations from other catalogs:
Princeton library discovery layer (cool visual + number implementation):

Summons library discovery layer -- has exact date input and common intervals

UK Data - barebones implementation but wanted to include a data repository
