propose "provider" column to track installation platform #79
Comments
Also pinging @pdurbin (who's probably already seen this lol), who's worked with Janet McDougall and others about installation personas and I think has been thinking about this info specifically, e.g. #16 (comment) |
@donsizemore thanks for opening and @jggautier thanks for linking to the "installation personas" issue. "provider" sounds fine but like Marie Kondo I kind of want to put like with like. That is AWS is like Azure or Google Cloud. Kubernetes is different. It can be run on any of those clouds or on premise. But maybe initially, rather than over thinking it, we should just go for this "provider" idea. We can always iterate on it, adding more columns as necessary. |
I think it's in general not bad idea to have an indication like "platform" about how Dataverse is being deployed. |
@donsizemore how do you feel about "platform" instead of "provider"? I guess I'm ok with a free text field for now. I'm not sure where to show it on the map, if at all. I have dreams of adding a "hacker mode" to the map to show details about deployment. 😄 |
For ease of conjuring kindred spirits, would the community benefit from a provider/platform column to easily identify who's running in AWS, Kubernetes, or a PC under somebody's desk?
I'm deferring to @jggautier and @shlake on whether and where rather than submitting a PR outright.
