Hi

When we use a Cloud device or a NAT device, they are the same symbol.
If we change their names in the laboratory, only the name of the interface allows us to know the device used.

Sometimes students don't follow the instructions and use the wrong device : Cloud instead of NAT, or the other way around.

If the NAT device has a blue cloud symbol and the Cloud has a red cloud symbol (for example), it would be easier to repair a student's malfunction.

You have the option to change the symbol for different cloud nodes using custom symbols.
Do to you need to have this available in the standard symbols list provided by GNS3 ?

The problem comes from the students: They may use a cloud instead of a NAT because they're not focused.
To troubleshoot their lab, we need to think about this mistake too.
Using a cloud with red or blue borders would make it easier to quickly distinguish between the 2 devices.
I suppose adding two new symbols and associating them with these devices by default is a simple solution.

You can already change the symbol, in fact there are Red/Green/Blue/gray variants of a "cloud" symbol. However that can also be changed on a specific node within a project, so that is no guarantee either.

You can't change the symbol of Cloud/NAT on the left bar ("All devices").
You can only change the symbol in the topology. If a student which is not focuse uses the bad device, he can also hide the problem with an other symbol.

You can create new template for cloud and NAT nodes and change the symbol on those, but you cannot change it on the built-in ones. Also there is no way currently to hide the built-in nodes so you would have 2 nodes with the same name.

The goal is to help the teacher when troubleshooting comes from an unfocused student. Adding a second template for the same thing will not help and may add new questions from students ("which template ?") what if the student uses the default template ?

I think I can make a pull request, but first I need to know if the idea is accepted

We could change the default NAT symbol, for instance by adding some arrows inside the cloud...

Yes. arrows may be better for color blind people

What do you think about this ?

What do you think about this ?

Is this something you designed yourself or you found?

But, strangely, i don't see the arrow in GNS3

I have the same issue. Most likely due to how the SVG was created.

I designed it myself after seeing this : link to nat symbol

I used inkscape. My web browsers Microsoft/Linux see it correctly

I don't understand why the arrows are not displayed.

I had to do the arrows by hand :

I made this one for the classic theme

nat

For the affinity theme, I have these proposals:

nat

nat

nat

nat

For the affinity theme, I prefer the last one because it is very similar to the classic

I have added the first and last ones. The last one will be the default symbol.
