Your Environment
F@H Software version: Folding@Home Client Version 7.6.21
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 22H2
Browser: Firefox Browser 109.0.1 64-Bit
** HWMonitor V1.49.0
** EVGA Precision Xoc v 6.2.7
Expected Behavior
The power slider bar is expected to set the utilization, light, medium and full.
Current Behavior
Full and medium are the same on my system for both the CPU and GPU demands which is 100% for the CPU and 90% for the GPU.
Light setting drops my CPU usage to around 50%, but pauses my GPU usage.
What is worrying is that the amount of usage on my Zotac GTX 980 TI AMP when set to medium the setting.
Folding@home is using 90% of my GPU as recorded by CPUID HWMonitor, but windows task manager says its only using 20%, and its forcing my GPU to 86C, with the hot spot at 99.3%, with all three fans at 100%
This is too much usage for my GPU to be realistic to donate my system time, my GPU uses 190W and the heat is not manageable. This issue will unknowingly increase failure rates in GPU's, especially graphics cards that don't have a GPU utility monitoring the temperature and automatically increasing the fan control to 100% from the standard 40%.
Possible Solution (Optional)
Investigate, implement better cpu & gpu utilization. More control over the amount of systems usage, like 0 to 100%, not goldie locks and the three bears settings, too cold, too hot, and just right.
Steps To Reproduce
Test Folding@Home in normal state.
Context
Im making this known as this is a potentially serious issue, that has the potential to damage graphics hardware by overheating, and is unrealistic based on the power demands placed on systems with high energy prices. Ive been folding@home on and off for 20 years, and only returned this evening to try it with my latest system, and i was suprised by this experience.
I hope a better solution can be found quickly, i think Folding@Home is a good concept, and with computers far more powerful than 20 years ago, people around the world could make a real difference by donating processing time, but users wont find it releastic if its turning the computer in to a noisey heater, because its using 100% resources while they are working or when its idle.

After looking in to my issue further and looking in the closed topics, i have found a workerable solution.
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT power settings (light medium full) incorrect #1701 #1701
I have used the EVGA Precision Xoc v 6.2.7 to the throttle back the GPU when the temperate reaches 60C, and i also reduced the GPU Clock Offset to -81, and the Mem Clock Offset to -182. This has reduced my temperature down to 60C from 86C and the hotspot temp to 73% from 99%, from. The Power consumption for the GPU is now fluctuation been 73W and 112W down from 180W.
Investigation in reducing CPU temps and power for the Ryzen 3 3300x im using, adjusting the power useage and heat generated. I have found that setting the CPU to balanced mode, and then changing the advanced power settings, so that the maximum power state is set to 90% has reduced my power usage from 62W to 32W, speed from Turbo 4343 MHz to constant 3393 MHz, and the package temperature from max at 76.8C down to a constant 47.3C.
I hope we get a better software configuration solution in the near future.
