In default runs without the SHEBA convergence data, the sensible heat shows small oscillations that need to be investigated. Is this a problem with the thermodynamics solver?

Hi Elizabeth,

May I ask some stupid questions about this, because it is of high interest to me.

I assuming that 'default runs' means no change to the namelist settings in icepack_parameters.F90, and includes the following settings:
-Bitz-Lipscomb
-highfreq is off
-natmiter=5

From this plot, one could be forgiven for thinking that some kind of filter has been used on the input SHEBA data between 0600Z observations. I assume we are looking at instantaneous values?

All up, I agree, this is pretty odd. I'm looking into it right now.

We need to define better what we mean by "default". In this case, it means the "out-of-the-box" run, i.e. with the namelist settings not altered. This run used the default namelist settings except that it does NOT use the SHEBA convergence data. So it's the mushy thermo, not BL99. Another possibility is that the ridging scheme is doing something when it shouldn't be, although I would think that would show up in other fields besides the sensible heat flux.

Sorry, I switched without to with in my mind's eye for "without the SHEBA convergence data". I am trying to replicate this. If I need any hints, please pass them on.
