The California Health Data Project team is exploring the feasibility of developing a method to crowdsource human services data statewide so that application developers can query data from a single database and enable those apps to work across the state of California. In order to get there, we first need to understand local efforts to collect, standardize, and make this data available. We're using GitHub Issues and working in the open, so that we can better understand who's doing what and where the greatest synergies lie.

Some of the questions we're interested in include:

• Who operates 211 in your county?
• Are there other entities in your county that currently collect and publish human services data?
• How is human services data collected and published in your county? Are there efforts underway to modernize how this data is collected and published?
• Does the data conform to an open standard, such as the Human Services Data Specification? Can the data be accessed via API?
• Are local stakeholders interested in publishing this data to a statewide database?
• What are your general thoughts, questions, or concerns about crowdsourcing human services data?

I'm interested in supporting this project best I can. I'm the open data advocate for the county's Behavioral Health Advisory Board (BHAB). That gives me a somewhat external limited view of this information.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Culture of Health has great interest around human services.

Another key project involving the link of health and human services client data is ConnectWellSD project (formerly named KIP). Stewards for Change, IBM, HP and Gartner Consulting are helping with that project.
