Connecting Maya Locator To usd Prim

Hi, we made a tool that connect a maya locators transform,rotate,scale attribute to the selected usd prims.
in general it works fine, but for some objects it does not, and we get the following error

Any idea why it does not work, and how we can fix this?
i attached a simple maya file that has this problem.
A simplified version of the script is "attached" in the code block bellow

to replicate the problem, select xfrom1 and run the script

Hi @kreppene, I am trying to give this a try on my end and seem to be hitting a different error when I run that script. Wondering if you know what could be the issue. I will keep looking into it. Maybe the way pymel was installed.
